Day 13. Car to Melanippe and walk to Adrasan

We left Kas at 8 am this morning (sept 23rd), it has been our base for the last 3 days and we really enjoyed it. Almost a 2 hour drive along the coast to the the last third of the Lycian way.

We will walk a large part of it towards Antalaya over the next week.

Today was one of our toughest and longest walk, around the lighthouse, built by the French in the 1930s.
We are staying at the north end of Adrasan bay.
On the walk we were rewarded by absolutely spectacular views, perhaps the best so far, certainly the most dramatic.

The Mediterranean is so blue in this part of the world.
There were tough climbs.
It was about 19k on the Lycian way give or take and a couple of steep climbs and even steeper descents.

There were markers almost every kilometer today, but they went oh so slowly.
There were many a photo op.

The result
Rocky coastline below.
A few islands where shipwrecks from the 13th century have been found.

A few obstacles to overcome.
Trees that had fallen and created interesting shapes.

Sometimes it was hard to believe the direction of the path.
But the cairns marked the way. Everything tastes good, especially the ripe pomegranates that Sawsan has a knack for picking along the way.
Sadly we rarely come across other walkers on this beautiful trail, but today there was a group of German walkers with a very professional Turkish guide that was fluent in English and German and an older English couple that were enjoying lunch with a view.
The Turkish guide offered us a lift for the last 4K or so, but we declined, it felt a little like cheating. The efes beer tasted that much better once we arrived at our magic hotel on a river.
Thanks to Paul from Amber travel who has arranged everything perfectly for us, even a replacement Trekking pole since I left Nadia's behind on a beach yesterday, a very rough boat ride away. Sorry Nadia!! It was a great pole with built in shock absorption I think. If it doesn't show up miraculously I'll buy a pair.

After a dinner of lamb chops we are chilling out along the river Turkish style.

Maps tomorrow.
